SIO-6056 Information Systems and Sustainable Development

Information systems and technologies play an important role in sustainable development. This course aims to expose students to the challenges that management information systems pose to sustainable development. Then, students will acquire new knowledge, develop new skills and learn concrete approaches for advancing sustainable development through the use of information systems and technologies. Sustainability requires new ways of thinking and problem-solving, thus the course adopts an active learning environment in which frequent participation and strong commitment is required from students, regardless of whether they follow the course in class or at a distance. Students who have already attended SIO-6054 cannot enroll in this course.

It is recommended to have previously completed a course in information systems beforehand. This course is the English version of SIO-6054 - Les SIO au service du développement durable. Students that have previously taken this course can’t subscribe to this one. Only one of those two courses will be accepted. The student is allowed to take assignments and exams in French.This course, given in distance learning delivery mode, includes live synchronous classes according to a predetermined schedule. Attendance at the synchronous classes is strongly recommended. Class recordings are usually made available for replay. Details of the recordings per class are indicated in the course outline. Proctored exams require attendance on-campus or at an off-campus exam centre, at the student’s discretion. They take place evenings or on weekends and, if applicable, may therefore take place at times other than the scheduled synchronous class time.
